Woods Crampton Phillip Patrick Eden Valley Shiraz 2018
ONLY 375 BOTTLES PRODUCED
Two truly unique wines named in honour of two truly unique gentlemen. A perfect parcel of Eden Valley Shiraz fruit. Cropped at less than one and a half tonnes per acre. That had it all - effortless power. Perfect balance. Immaculate purity and precisely defined structure. Vinified, as they do all their wines, using gentle Burgundian techniques aimed to allow the fruit full expression without over-extraction - an initial cold-soak before a long, cool ferment in an open one-tonne fermenter with just under a third whole bunches, minimal additions, and twice daily hand plunging, gently pressed to five hundred litre French oak puncheons. The intensity of the fruit easily handles seventy per cent new oak for twenty months. Bottled without fining and with minimal filtration. The epitome of everything they love about the Eden Valley Shiraz is defined, like all the great wines, by its shape and its beautifully fine tannins. Never getting massive, but serenely flowing on and on with incredible length. "My father was born on a small farm, down a dirt road without electricity, and has lived to see amazing things. Likewise, what a story this wonderful vineyard would have to tell, I can only imagine where the world will be when this incredible wine reaches its peak in sixty or more years." - Nicholas Crampton.
